Temple Grandin is the perfect example of this. She was completely nonverbal, and everybody kept trying to convince her mother that she was a lost cause; that she should be institutionalized. But her mother refused to believe them, and kept working with Temple. She learned to talk, she learned manners, and was able to participate in society. She earned a PH.D in animal science, made huge contributions to the livestock industry with her inventions, and now she’s a University Professor, and yet they wanted to put her in an asylum just because she had a rough start.
