Until the Robot Cars Arrive, Here Is How Much You’re Paying Per Year of Car Ownership
Nicole Dieker

I spend about $4,800 per year on my car (including parking but not counting environmental damage). Based on my current lifestyle, using public transit is never going to be feasible (although I’d love to live a car free life). Using Lyft for all of my driving needs would double my transit cost per year because nothing is walkable where I live in the suburbs and there are no local buses.
