However, for 2024 that all changes with the introduction of the BMW XM a very confusingly named Flagship high performance SUV that slots in between the X5 and the X7. And for 2024, BMW is turning the WIC up by introducing this model here.
2024 Bmw XM label and it essentially increases the output of the twin turbo V8 with the electric motor to produce 738. Horsepower, making this model here, the most powerful production BMW ever. So today we're actually out here in Spartanburg South Carolina for the BMW test Fest event. Now, as BMW, M Division, Standalone model, that basically means there is no BMW equivalent minus the M badge. If you look at BMW's lineup, and that's what makes the XM super unique because this is an M only developed car.
We haven't seen one in America since 1981 number before we start talking about the very, very polarizing styling. Let me go ahead and pop the hood and show you guys what's powering this thing. Because, as you guys know, the M stands for motor and this is where the XM label has a very unique power. Train all XM's are essentially powered by a plug-in hybrid Powertrain, which means you have a combination of a 4.4 liter twin turbocharged direct injection V8 engine the engine on its own and the label makes 553 horsepower. I'm sorry, 577 horsepower, around 553 pound-feet of torque. There is a more powerful electric motor that sandwiched in between the gas engine and the 8-speed automatic.
The gas are the electric motor on its own delivers are on 194 horsepower. So, in total, when you combine the gas engine electric motor, we have 738 hor. Are 738 pound-feet torque as well. That's an increase of about 90 almost 100 horsepower, versus the regular XM, the non-label version, which has around, 644 horsepower. Like I said earlier there's an 8-speed automatic transmission.
That is putting the power down the company's MX Drive all-wheel drive system is standard which means you have a limited slip differential. It's performance oriented all-wheel drive system that does give you the ability to put this vehicle into a two-wheel drive, a rear wheel drive mode, which is, of course, what a typical M driver is probably going to want to do. Now, the cool thing about this plug-in hybrid Powertrain is it has a 19.2 kilowatt hour usable kilowatt hour, battery pack that feeds the electric motor to deliver up to 31 miles of all electric range. So, you can actually drive this vehicle as an EV for up to 31 miles in certain conditions. The fuel tank capacity of the gas engines around, 18 gallons. So Bmw says, you'll get around 14 MBG combined.
When you drive it on the gas only around 48 MPGE which is the electric equivalent of miles per gallon. You'll be looking at around 250 miles of range on the gas engine, plus the 30 miles on the electric only part. So around, 280 miles of range total which isn't a lot. This is a high performance vehicle BMW. Says the label version will do 0 to 60 and 3.6 seconds. So it's about a half a second faster versus the non-label XM. So making this again, the quickest production SUV that BMW has ever produced. Uh, sadly. However, this is an SUV, but it doesn't actually, it's not actually recommended to tow.
Anybody says, it's not recommended for Towing here in Europe. I saw, I could tell up to 6 000 pounds, so not sure why BMW didn't want to fix that. This is a heavy heavy vehicle. As this car sits, it weighs in it just over 6, 200 pounds. That's a full thousand pounds heavier, versus an X5m competition, which again, it doesn't have the plug-in hybrid aspect. This vehicle also has a top speed of get this 175 miles an hour. So that is insane. Considering this is a three-ton plus SUV, but let's go ahead and close up the hood and talk about the polarizing exterior styling.
2024 Bmw XM which there isn’t really a base version. A non-label starts at just under 160 thousand dollars 160 thousand dollars. That’s like 40 thousand dollars more than an x5m competition, which is a pretty big chunk of change. Auto CAR
