6. Packaging

Pop-Up Shop // 1/11 Items

I’m a bit behind on blogging again due to an overload of work throughout the week and I went home for my Mom and Sisters Birthdays this week. However here is an update on where i am with the packaging.

After my crit last week the main thing that came up for me to include in the packaging of me reclaimed lamp is that the packaging be made out of found card//boxes and that the information would be honest and tell of what/how the lamp was made.

I started off by making a box to contain my lamp safely. I plan on having all 10 of my lamps out on display during the pop-up shop — so the boxes will mainly be for travel and to reinforce this message of more sustainable design. Below are some photos of the box being made:

I then started thinking about any branding or imagery i wanted to put on the box. Liking the idea of sticking to hand made design i decided to have a go using lino cutting (for the first time).

However, after experimenting with the printing of this i felt that perhaps it would be too much and over do it. Maybe my packaging should be more honest? Perhaps it should simply look like a box until you open it. Then you see the new use it has been given and along the branding inside the box, making the whole aim clear. To make the ordinary extraordinary, to give a use back to the useless.
