Arkhia provides users with a complete suite of tools that ease the building process on Hedera and bolster developer and end-user confidence in dApps being built. Arkhia achieves this by offering developers secure, consistent pathways so their dApps can communicate with the Hedera public ledger.

At the time of writing, Arkhia offers three methods of querying the Hedera network: the JSON RPC Relay, REST API, and gRPC. Each method is unique in its utility for developers.

The JSON RPC Relay

The JSON-RPC Relay. It acts as a proxy allowing a developer to leverage familiar Ethereum tools and libraries to navigate the Hedera ecosystem. In a way, the JSON-RPC Relay acts like Google Translate, which ensures Ethereum calls can be used to query data in the Hashgraph ecosystem. Currently in Beta, it already allows users to execute contracts, query data, and integrate with Metamask. Unlike the REST-API, the JSON RPC Relay can communicate both with the mirror and consensus nodes, depending on the use case.

Why is this important? As activity increases on the network, developers should not be driven away by an unfamiliar SDK. The Messari Q3 report on the Hedera ecosystem, noted that the use of the Hedera Smart Contract Service rose a whopping 2,455% QoQ, illustrating massive growth in the number of users and developers interacting with the network. Additionally, on November 10th, the Hedera network processed over 24 million transactions in 10 hours.

Arkhia provides developers who are comfortable with EVM-compatible networks a secure, reliable, familiar environment to build scalable and performant dApps on Hedera. To learn more about our JSON RPC Relay integration, read our non-technical blog.

Querying through REST API

Another way to query data on the Hedera network is through the Mirror Node REST API. It allows developers to query data from the Hedera mirror nodes. Mirror nodes on Hedera poll from the record file, which is made available by the consensus nodes every few milliseconds to ensure they have the correct and most up-to-date information regarding the state of the network. Mirror nodes and consensus nodes work symbiotically to store data and achieve consensus, respectively, while increasing the throughput of the Hedera network.

Utilising REST API endpoints allows builders to make specific queries to the mirror nodes regarding any information since the genesis of the Hedera public network. Additionally, users can make up to 200 calls per second on Arkhia’s mirror node.

It is important to note that Arkhia offers (2x) double the amount of data per call than the Hedera Public Mirror Node, making key operations such as indexing or querying historical data more efficient. Your queries are your decision, and you’ll get more with Arkhia.

With Arkhia as your infrastructure provider, you have the tools to process whatever queries you require for your Hedera-based application. To see how to query the Hedera public network using the REST API on Arkhia, view our Medium blog.

The gRPC

The gRPC provides unique functionality unattainable by both the JSON RPC Relay and the REST API. The gRPC enables querying topics or channels. This enables users to constantly listen for data rather than just asking for a snapshot at any given time.

For example, a board of organisations may want to have an immutable, transparent, and accurate ledger of key public transactions between them. With the Hedera Consensus Service, made available through the gRPC API, they can create an authorised Topic from which key entities can publish ‘transaction’ messages and subscribe to them. Consensus, finality, and integrity of the data are never compromised.

Other examples of gRPC requests include:

  • Tell the temperature of a city every half an hour
  • Every time a specific ID makes a transaction
  • Blockchain gaming scores

Conclusion

Arkhia provides builders on Hedera with a complete suite of tools to develop their dream applications seamlessly. Depending on dApp size and scale, choosing the right plan for you will empower your dApp with sufficient and available data to make the number of calls and requests necessary for success.
