Entry 02–02/11/2016

Tonight I spent a bit more time with Caverns. Probably 2 hours in total. I was feeling pretty down on the intro (I know I was supposed to move past that, but it’s important). Thankfully I was able to push through it and, I believe, take a good step forward with the quality of the sound and energy. Something was seriously lacking and I was able to fill it in, so to speak. I like bullet lists, so here’s a summary.

  • Added new hi-hat percussion to the intro (that helped fill in that horrible gap of emptiness)
  • Added another clap to my clap layer, but it comes in later when more energy is needed (I may even be able to move it out to an even more energetic section)
  • Added another bass to the bass layer, it has more highs than the other (helps fill in some gaps)
  • Started tweaking automation on the cutoff of the main pluck to build energy

I’m having my doubts about how energetic the song starts off. I guess I’m not wasting any time trying to build up. The question is, is that sustainable? Have I started off with so much energy that it’s nigh impossible to keep building up from that. That remains to be seen. Anyway, a great productive night.
