So, just for the heck of it, a couple of comments and a question or two. As per the three “Hot Biotech Trends” . . .
- Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine. Really? I thought this was getting hot about 5 years ago. But that was about the time I was “Checking Out” (I write software now), so whadda I know. In any event I would have thought that multiple companies with artificial / temporary organs etc would have gotten thru a Phase II trial or two. Are there any companies that have generated artificial / Stem Cell derived organs / organs substitutes that have gotten past Phase I. Inquirin’ minds wanna know and all that.
- Neuroscience with an emphasis on imaging. No Way. Just like anti-sense in the 1990s (were you in the business back then?). Way too early. and suffers from the fact that if its an Image its just a diagnostic (and detecting Alzheimers five years before outward symptoms only depresses the poor patient). And if you’re quoting an Elon Musk’s (he got his neuroscience degree where? ) adventure or medical uses of Psilocybin (not while Sessions is AG, I’m guessing) It should be obvious that you’re wasting time and cash. Save Other Peoples money and let other fools jump in too early.
- AI instead of Doctors. This I can believe. Given a large enough data set and competent enough programmers, it should be possible to come up with algorithms that far outperform ye old cardiologist (or oncologist). For a lot less money. Bad news if you happen to be a pre-med student. Possibly very Good News indeed for a country that spends 10,000 per person per year on health care. Worth investing in.
And now my question for you. Why is there so little Biotech writing / controversy’s / discussion on Medium?? I could learn three new computer languages before I saw three new postings about biotech. I would naively think that Medium would be perfect for the (west coast, anyway) biotech world, but this does not appear to be the case. If you know differently, please point me in the direction of who to follow etc. If I’m right, why do you think this is the case?
regards KGH
