Great piece Dan! Thank you for mentioning our sister organization Kapor Capital as proof that team diversity is real and possible. At the Level Playing Field Institute, we also use an approach that is similar to Green’s in our program, SMASH Academy.
SMASH is an intensive, STEM education program that targets underrepresented high school youth of color and low-income. The program spans 3 years and not only do they get to spend 5 weeks each summer living and studying on elite college campuses, but they are also exposed to STEM instructors, residential staff & professionals who look like them and share similar lived experiences. Our scholars learn how to build their social capital and create a community that fosters their personal and professional growth, all through a social justice lens.
The talent is out there and we’re proud to be an active part of the solution in addressing the lack of diversity in the tech space by following the example of leaders like Dennis Green.
