when I become a thing

the world of things
wants me to collect enough things
so that when I become a thing
I will have left behind so many things
that people will remember me,
forced to spend
so much time having to sort
and pack my things
and trash some
and keep others,
some things growing new things
and yet more becoming the kinds of things
that make a splash
in op shop windows
twenty maybe fifty years after such things
have long outlived their uses
and transformed…
