I have often juggled the idea that a software engineer, a programmer and a developer have different roles and I should aspire to be one over the another based on the prestige associated with the title. I can say today honestly, go with what you feel is right for you — and that there is no difference in the “glory” associated with one position or another, especially if you enjoy the work that keeps you excited and moving!
A software developer is a practical software programmer, who’s focus is to produce software as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
Software developers are the integrators of their field. They synthesize third-party libraries to create a software system that supports their goal as developers. They consider open-source software as the bread and butter of their project — especially if their project needs a clean solution that’s mostly bug-free.
As integrators, they read vast amounts of third-party technical documentation in order to better understand the the resources they are working with.
Thank you for reading this article. I hope you enjoyed this short description of what a software developer is and now have insight into how they approach software development.
