Leonardo Da Vinci’s Magnum Opus

An enormous fresco that was unfinished, damaged, and abandoned. Arguably his best work. Some art scholars even doubt it was ever painted. Will it ever be found?

For centuries, the whereabouts of this painting have been unknown. Nevertheless, for anyone who has studied the mysterious and enigmatic Leonardo, this does not come as a surprise. Da Vinci’s life was and still is filled with uncertainty. Over five hundred years have passed since his death and we are still looking for answers. Though I can not answer all of your questions, I will attempt to establish a clearer understanding in regards to this particular fresco and its history.

Da Vinci was an extremely slow and meticulous painter. This is probably why there are less than 20 completed works attributed to him. Although there are few finished paintings, he leaves behind over seven thousand pages of studies, research, and drawings. The Battle of Anghiari is listed as an unfinished masterpiece. If it were to ever be found, there would be pandemonium in the art world.
