A Time to Reflect and Rebuild

“The crisis has passed.”

These words from surviving reporter, Harriet Jones who comforts the citizens of London today as the dust settles on Downing Street. Like the flying saucer, citizens heads are still spinning as they recall recent events, and all the work to be done in the weeks to come.

Two days have passed since a flaming UFO circled the city of London, smashing into Big Ben, and crashing finally into the Thames River. With the city sent into an immediate state of emergency, all hope seemed lost as the Prime Minister was missing. According to protocol, a temporary replacement was found to stand in his place.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of the Monitoring of Sugar and Standards of Exported Confectionery, Joseph Green was appointed as acting Prime Minister. In an effort to combat riots and looting, Green put all hands on deck.

Military and Police reinforcements shut down all roads in London, urging the public to stay inside with doors and windows locked. The Army sent divers into the Thames, recovering an extraterrestrial body which was then taken to the quarantined Albien Hospital for research. Unsure if this meant the possibility of more extraterrestrials, the Secretary General asked all citizens to “watch the skies”, and provided a UFO Hotline number for sightings and tips.

At 10 Downing St., a myriad of unexpected faces appeared on the scene, apparently per Green’s request. One arrival being the Chairman of the North Sea Boating Club, Sylvia Delane. These apparently ‘appointed’ officials comforted the public with promises of a closed meeting with the United Nations Intelligence Task Force (UNIT) for additional consultation. Officials spent the next few hours reviewing the Official Emergency Protocol.

As reports of alien attacks and sightings poured in to the hotline, Green addressed the masses.

“We are fighting extinction” he said.

Green explained that the alien life forms had infiltrated the building, attacking and killing all members of UNIT. At that point, the upper two floors of the building had been quarantined in an effort to contain the aliens, though some reports from the public revealed that aliens had already been spotted as far as the suburbs.

Though all members of UNIT were killed, the meeting still provided pertinent information to the survival of the human race.

“It is my solemn duty to inform you, planet Earth is at war,” Green said.

Green explained that UNIT’s investigations had found “massive weapons of destruction,” that were “capable of being destroyed in 45 seconds if we take action soon. I beg you to give up the codes.”

Following Green’s speech at midnight in New York City, the United Nations met to vote on whether to send the nuclear launching codes to London, initiating the first War of the Worlds. The world watched in suspense, as the United Nations Weapons System was hacked, sending a missile straight into 10 Downing St., killing all but three civilians inside. One of which emerged from the debris, inspiring the public and instilling faith for a brighter future, Harriet Green.

Though remaining officials are still withholding comments regarding who is to take the place of the Prime Minister and the other members of the cabinet, citizens of London seem to agree that Jones is a worthy candidate, in the wake of sketchy leadership and a governing system that proved itself unreliable in a state of emergency.
