she writes about her love
and the way he makes her laugh
and the tears they have shed together
she writes
she writes about her warm coffee
in the frosty window
on the cold morning
she writes
she writes about pain
because she knows it intimately
and they say write what you know
she writes
she writes about love
something she is still learning
and sometimes she writes herself
into a better understanding
or a curiosity of
a view she never had before
she writes
she writes about the moon
and her moon goddess ancestors
her lineage and their stories
as she writes about her own
she writes
she writes about trauma
because some things need to be expressed
before throat knows how to make voice again
she writes
she writes about death
and the grief paired with its inevitability
about the sadness of those not really living
but not gone yet either
she writes
she writes about strangers she sees
in the café or bar
silently thanking them for inspiration
of a detail that was needed
and could only come from them
in that particular moment
she writes
she writes fiction that she
wants to become truth
she writes about injustice
and what can become possible
she writes
she writes about survival
and choice and how
people forget that they are so much more
than what they have survived
that there is choice
even after survival
choice in the smallest details of their lives
that when ownership is taken
they remember there is more to life than victim status
she writes
she writes about friendships faraway
the travels to get there
the pure joy of hugging an old friend
she writes
she writes about the complexities of relationships
about politics
about whiskey, wine, and water
about justice
about rainbows
about humanity
she writes
do not try to contain her pen
or put her in a categorical box
she writes and she writes and she writes
about all of it
and more
