You can’t rip changing a beloved childhood franchise in a major way without being sexist? I’m all for diversity in our lead movie roles (quick, name me the best Asian male lead in a major Hollywood movie in the last ten years … exactly, we better change it so Superman is from the South Pacific) but you’re always going to rile up people when you mess with their childhoods. Especially when it’s just a superficial makeover that screams “look how progressive we are!” There was no major outrage when Bridesmaids came out because it was just a solid movie that happened to have women in the lead roles. The Ghostbuster “Twitter outrage” seems more to do with an ill-conceived reboot attempt than the fact that a movie has main characters with vaginas instead of phallic particle throwers. I hope Hollywood can keep the diversity coming in lead roles, but maybe be a little more creative while doing so in it’s recent established IP craze. Don’t think it can be done? Allow Creed to show you the way.
