Sorry. This teacher is dead wrong. All that blather is BS. Maybe the kid is dyslexic. Maybe since multiplication is commutative, it really doesn’t matter.
You get the same answer. This teacher is one of the ones that taught me to hate math. I don’t know how many times I got the correct answer, and then had points taken off because I didn’t take the approved path to get there. Even now I can look at arithmetic problems and know the correct answer, and damned if I know how I got there. When I try to string out these step by step things, it doesn’t work. When I write, I write, then go back and do the outline. You have to learn to trust your brain, and make split second decisions in life. Since math is not grammar, and red apple is the same as manzana rojo, “is 5” is a perfectly good answer if the problem is ll + lll =
I feel sorry for this kid, and hope he/she got a new teacher this year.
