Metal in Minnesota: Sheridan Veterans Memorial Park

If you haven’t yet seen the Sheridan Veterans Memorial park in Northeast Minneapolis, you really should make your way there this Memorial weekend. A beautiful mix of metal and memories, the freestanding sculpture, designed by Robert Smart, and surrounding park provide a peaceful place for people pay their respects to the dedication and bravery of the men and women who have served our country.

The centerpiece of the park, a sculptured sphere of shields, illuminates in the evenings against the backdrop of the mighty Mississippi, which provides a welcoming soundscape. Plaques made of steel and cast iron faces surround the sphere and highlight 10 conflicts that Minnesotans have served in throughout many decades. Day or night, this park is a stunning mix of metal, light, air, and nature.
