Matthaus comes with balanced stats, both in attack and defense, with 10k in almost all of his stats at level 60 and reaching 16k in all three defensive options at level 100.

On the other hand, his offensive stats are decent for a defender, but for a CM or CDM they may fall short, since if we compare his passing stats that reach 15k at level 100, with other CMs that exceed 17k, it is possible that as Playmaker his passes are intercepted very often.

After reviewing his stats, can conclude that his best position is undoubtedly CB, since his passing stats are not great enough to fulfill the Playmaker role.
For this reason, it is better to place him on defense as a CB, that way we will take more advantage of his good defensive stats, in addition to his S+ blocking skill move, which as CM or CDM we will not get much use out of him.

If you will use Matthaus as a shot blocker at the CB position, I recommend distributing his 16 evolution points as follows:
- 4 Points to Blocking (+900).
- 2 Points to Tackling (+550).
- 3 Points to Intercept (+750).
- 3 Points to Power (+750).
- 2 Points to Speed (+550).
- 2 Points to Technique (+550).
If you will use Matthaus as a playmaker and recovery ball in the CM or CDM position, I recommend distributing his 16 evolution points as follows:
- 4 Points to Passing (+900).
- 2 Points to Tackling (+550).
- 3 Points to Intercept (+750).
- 3 Points to Speed (+750).
- 4 Points to Technique (+900)

It should be noted that the S+ block that Matthaus has has a special effect, this effect will increase the Power Play gauge if we manage to win the duel with this skill move, it is a decent effect, since it does not increase our stats but we will be able to charge the gauge of Power Play a little before our opponent.
To complete Matthaus skill moves kit, he must be equipped with dribbling and passing, this way he can assist the forwards if used as CM or CDM.
And if he is used as a CB, he will have a way to win duels against opposing forwards in the defensive zone.

Matthaus main S rank trait is good, since it will greatly increase our stats if we can correctly guess the rival command.
On the other hand, its main A-rank trait is not to my liking because it is very situational, since it increases the player’s stats if we activate the Power Play, but unfortunately we only activate the Power Play 1 or 2 times in the match, so we will take very little advantage of this trait.
The traits that I recommend are the following:
If we will use Matthaus as CB, these traits will help us make him a better defender, increasing the power of our S+ blocking skill move with Block Master and the stats thanks to FW Hunter and Shot Crusher that will be activated frequently in the match.
Additionally, Sublime Intercepting can help us avoid the strategy of passing over our player.
If we will use Matthaus as CM or CDM, these traits are the most recommended, since they will help us make our player a better Playmaker thanks to the Pass Master and Midfield King, and Challengers Impact will be useful to try to recover balls.

Weaknesses:
- In the CM or CDM position it can suffer because it has a type disadvantage against widely used red CM (Lampard, Gullit).
- Its A-rank main trait is very situational.
Conclusion:
Matthaus is a good defender, with solid stats in all 3 defensive options, an S rank main trait that is good for defensive players, and an S+ skill move with a special effect.
While as a midfielder I have my doubts, since his passing stats may not be enough compared to other CM in the game, also with the fact that he has a type disadvantage against Lampard who is a CM that almost all the top teams in matches ranked have.
For this reason, I consider that if you are looking for a CM or CDM it may not be recommended to spend your Tactical Points, but on the other hand, if you are looking for a solid CB for your team, I do recommend investing your Tactical Points, especially if you do not have a good green type defense.
