Types of Rudraksha and How to Recognize the Original Rudraksha
Rudraksha is said to be the eye of Lord Shiva. Shiva is the destroyer in the trilogy of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. He is the supreme Guru and is also called “Mahadeva” i.e. the Super most Lord. Hindus render their utmost dedication and devotion to Lord Shiva.
Rudraksha has been associated with Lord Shiva since time immemorial. Almost all the depiction of Lord Shiva contains Rudraksha beads on his forearms and neck.
Hindus have been wearing Rudraksha since long to ward off the evil effects of planets in their janam kundli, to get health benefits and to bring good luck.
Types of Rudraksha
There are many types of Rudraksha available in the market like Indonesian, Nepali Rudraksha, Haridwari Rudraksha. Apart from these there is on e more type which is Fake Rudraksha, these are those rudraksha which are used by quacks to fool people and make quick buck in the name or God and faith. They come in many faces which are also called the “mukh” and they are available from 1 mukhi to 21 mukhi.
Where are the fake ones available?
Ironically, they are available at the most religious places where only original ones are supposed to be present. The greed of the businessmen and blind faith of people propel the desire to make fake seeds and sell them. Thus, at most of places where there is a Shiva temple or Durga temple or jyotirlingam or shaktipeeth, one finds plenty of fake seeds. I am not saying that all are fakes but 90% usually are. Nepali Rudraksha is supposed to be most effective and people try to duplicate it by chemicals, cutting, and other ways. 1 mukhi Nepali rudraksha is rare thing to find, those farmers who are growing it in Nepal hardly find 3 to 4 pieces a year so it is strange that how so many are freely available in the market.
How to recognize the original one?
There are many ways in practice by the commoners to find out the Original Rudraksha but they are not very scientific. Some of them are:
1) It should drown in water
2) It should rotate between two copper coins
3) Milk does not get non-consumable for a week if rudraskha is boiled in milk.
Usually all three have fallacies and cannot be trusted. The best way is that to take an experienced person who is an expert of Rudraksha and buy with him. The reason is that quacks are so adept in their skill that it is almost impossible for a common man to trace the original one.
The rare Rudrakshas are the ones which are most duplicated and the most skill set if used to make them look original. The other way is to take X-Ray or CT-Scan of the Rudraksha and then judge but it is not practical and possible every time.
Thus the opinion of an experienced person is the only resort.
