It’s interesting to me that this starts off being about insurance, and carries on being about insurance, and nonsensical policies and practices related thereto, when it is *really* about the absence of ‘sick pay’ for many, many jobs.

With some sort of sick pay system, this would have been $24 and some hours of customer service hell, without sick pay, it’s a week’s pay. Not that customer service hell is ok, but it’s really just to be expected, in many (most?) situations.
