While this is an interesting read, I expect more from an academic.

It might be worth noting that the article wasn’t written by the academic whose voice is presented throughout it — “As Told to MEL” and “Edwin Hodge, as told to John McDermottrather than “Edwin Hodge.”

The article was obviously put together from some kind of interview, so you’re unlikely to get the whole story unless it was a whole series of them going into some serious depth. While that might make a more compelling case in the resulting story, it would run into the dual problems of the subject not really being important enough to justify that kind of time expenditure, and probably not having the time free himself to commit to it while he’s a PhD candidate.
