The F-101 was apparently pretty good when used as an interceptor in its 2-seater F-101B/-101F variants. The weak point was the AIM-4 Falcon missile, which just didn’t work well. The same weapon was used on the F-106. Fortunately, both types also carried the AIR-2 Genie nuclear-tipped rocket, which worked *extremely* well.
In general, the fighters designed in decade after WW2 were coping with dramatic advances in technology. Most of them had some serious flaws. Ironically, the Century-series fighters listed were probably among the more successful designs of the period. Certainly better than the F7U Cutlass or F3H Demon.
