You’re Not Supposed to Know That

I had a similar experience- the teacher was reading a text and she read “people” instead of “human beings”

When I objected, she said that it was too complicated a phrase for the other kids and would only confuse them.

I didn’t like it.

It confused me and must have been an important moment since I remember it like it was yesterday.

It made me more sceptical of authority.
