Sunrise Movement Los Angeles endorses local climate champions for 2020 election

Los Angeles, CA — Today, Sunrise Movement Los Angeles announced endorsements for five candidates running in the upcoming March 2020 election. The endorsed candidates span multiple levels of office, including Los Angeles City Council and California State Assembly, and are all running on a Green New Deal platform. They are Loraine Lundquist (CD12), Nithya Raman (CD4), Aura Vasquez (CD10), Fatima Iqbal-Zubair (AD64), and Dan Brotman (Glendale City Council).

“We are proud to endorse these five outstanding candidates who are fighting for a Green New Deal in their districts and beyond,” said John Kerin, a leader of Sunrise LA’s electoral organizing team. “With grassroots power, they are inspiring their communities to stand up to the status quo and demand that politicians ensure our right to a good home, a good job, clean air, clean water, and a livable future.”

Aura Vasquez (CD10) is a long-time climate activist dedicated to racial, social, and environmental justice. “I’m honored to receive Sunrise Movement LA’s endorsement,” she remarked. “I am proud to have rolled up my sleeves and fought side by side with Sunrise Movement LA to retire three coastal gas plants, end neighborhood oil drilling, and move L.A. to 100% renewables. I believe with Sunrise Movement LA by my side, we’ll continue fighting for a local Green New Deal, finding solutions to the current climate crisis, and creating a sustainable future for Los Angeles.”

Sunrise Movement Los Angeles is the LA hub of the Sunrise Movement, a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. Sunrise is building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people.
