Possibly the best show on earth.
During my two weeks of extra-vacay after finishing the study abroad program, I visited many places and had many experiences not necessarily tied to historical figures, events, or cultural precepts. Particularly, today’s blog focuses on a place Anthony Bourdain called “the greatest show on earth”. In Shinjuku, there’s a place near the red light district that focuses completely on the strange.

It’s called “Robot Restaurant”. The name only gives away a part of what you’ll see in the show. Ever since I saw Anthony Bourdain’s show a couple years back, I was interested in going to see this show. When I was in Japan, I realized “Oh hey, I can go see this now” and so I made two reservations for a show. It’s a bit costly if you’re not interested in whatever this sort of thing is(its a bit complicated). A seat at the show is around $70. There’s a birthday special for $80 requiring the extra $10 at the door if you pay online. Mysteriously, we didn’t pay for the birthday special we ordered.
I won’t give too much up about it besides a small video and directions. It’s best to go in with as little known about it as possible. Suffice to say, directions are simple. From the station, you only need go straight out from the east exit and you’ll come upon it quickly because it’s the main attraction in that little corner. There’s about four time slots and the show lasts approximately an hour and half. We picked the latest slot at around 9:45. I think they start shows as early as 5:30–6, but don’t quote me on that.
Anyway, here’s the video.
