Contemplating the last 2 and 1/2 months

It’s not easy to make those decisions. But it’s important to make them.

As I read through the stories of God’s people, when they made decisions based on God’s Word and His voice, things went well for them.

In January I knew that I had to change my pattern of life. Too much time had been spent on doing the same things day after day. I needed newness to inspire me.

My scripture for 2021 is:

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not…

Just following God’s leading

Kingfisher by Janis Cox.

I left the Medium Partnership this year. I am no longer interested in paying $5 to get $6. However, I still want a place to write and this is the best place to be.

It’s easy and I can add pictures quickly. God has turned my heart to painting to bring joy and peace to this world.

So today is a look at some of the artwork I have done recently. I am expanding my subjects. Today I took a demonstration from Viktoria Preischedko. Here is my result.

Memories

Recalling the time that I met Jesus on the day of His birth

Christmas Card 2020 by Janis Cox

One Christmas Eve, we visited a different church in our small town. It was dark when we arrived at the little church.

Poetry

This is Advent Week Four. The focus is on LOVE

Watercolour by Janis Cox

Love came down in the form of a BABE. God gave His only Son to us. The Incarnation. Love at its highest.

Love at its highest.

By reading through God’s Word, we can know more and more about this love. And we also learn how we need to show the same love to others.

After reading today’s scriptures, I wrote this poem. Love is this week’s Advent Week Four.

This is an abecedarian poem. I use the first letter of the alphabet to help me work through my thoughts.

Today’s scriptures:

Luke 1:46b-55;
1 Samuel 1:1–18;
Hebrews 9:1–14

An abecedarian poem after reading scriptures

Joy on my tree. Personal photo.

So many scriptures have the word “joy” in them. I read that “joy” is found 155 times in KJV.

Therefore, joy must be important to God.

He created us to feel that emotion. He also blessed us with the Holy Spirit so we can feel joy even when we don’t feel happy. Weird eh?

As I study three passages a day, I am learning so much about God, about me and about my relationship with others. I also joined Kimberley Payne’s challenge on Facebook to read through the book of Luke this Advent Season.

I’ve been challenged by reading a…

This Advent Week Two. We focus on peace. We learn more about it

Painting by Janis Cox

At this moment we all need God’s peace, more than ever.

Jesus did say,

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27, NIV)

And Paul reminds us:

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new…

A study & poem on Advent: Hope

Photo by Ron Smith on Unsplash

I haven’t written in a while. I have been on a painting spree. For each day of November, I painted every day. This week is Advent Week One — hope.

Today was different. I painted and wrote two poems. I will share one with you today. This is an Abecedarian poem. I use the alphabet to help me think through my thoughts.

We are reading through the Bible in Three Years in my Facebook group, Growing through God’s Word. And I also joined a group this December to read through Luke — 24 days, 24 chapters called New Christmas Tradition.

A poem and a painting

Two Turtles and a Moon by Janis Cox

My children’s book Tadeo Turtle is now finished and ready to purchase on Amazon both in Kindle and paperback.

I have so many turtles in my head I had to draw them. From a prompt on Instagram of a “moon”, I painted this little piece. Then my sister texted me that she had just written a poem and it matched the painting.

Two Turtles

The little painted turtle swam up the mighty stream.
Looking for a home was the little turtle’s dream. …

Inspiration from Scripture

A Poem

The poem, “The Mighty Planner”, below was inspired after reading scripture.

From Wikipedia

Lord God
Mighty Planner
Ruler of all

From Creation
through to
New Creation

You knew
everything
before it happened

The Tabernacle
built to
Your specifications

Every part of it
every detail
made for a reason

Even John the Baptist’s
death with his followers
lost and confused

But John’s legacy
and teachings
prevailed

Foreshadowing
what would happen
after Jesus’ death

His resurrection
The Holy Spirit helped
his followers prevail

Through persecutions
through the millennia
Right up to the time of His New Creation.

And it is all good

A sign I purchased at a Tribe Writers Conference in Tennesse. Keep moving forward following Jesus.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:1–2, NIV)

Things are changing — not just in our world but in my life.

Read my poem where this all began.

God is moving me forward but…
