Medium reminded me that the month of March is Women’s History Month in the United States. I believe Canada has one in October.
This year the theme for Women’s History Month in the US is:
“NEVERTHELESS SHE PERSISTED: Honoring Women Who Fight All Forms of Discrimination Against Women”
My thoughts go back to my grandparents, then my parents, to me and then my children. Both grandmothers stayed at home to look after their kids. Grandfathers worked outside of the house. But I do know that my great-grandmother helped her husband in a candy store on Queen Street, in Toronto.
My mother stayed home as well. But she became involved with the Canadian Diabetic Juvenile Diabetes Society when my sister became diabetic at the age of 10. I always recall her having meetings, writing envelopes, and being on the phone.
She was always working to help other moms cope with this diagnosis of diabetes in their children.
