I talked to my hubby and this is his response. It might start you on your way to research in 2020.

Well, this is a broad question. I’m not convinced any kind of information will change the mind of your friend due to the death of expertise phenomena. Nevertheless, I will attempt to enlighten.

1) here is a reference to the coming ice age of the 70s. Yes, as always, there were some people predicting it.

2) East Anglia is a fine school and here is what actually happened. Sometimes it doesn’t matter how much something is explained, people believe what they want. Look at the antivaxers.

3) The politics are tougher to deal with because, well, it’s politics and what can I say.

I’m not sure your friend would actually know a “socialist”. The definition is extremely broad in the US and usually includes everyone that is not a registered Republican.

Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, Mao, Fidel Castro and Leonid Breshnev are good examples of true socialists. Bernie Sanders is not a socialist even though he sometimes bills himself as one.

AOC is certainly far left (as is Bernie) but in a good democracy, their viewpoints should be respected.

4) God gave us the privilege of free choice. In hindsight, sometimes the choices we make are not all that good but they seem good at the time. Personally I do believe climate change is real and totally ignoring it will be at our peril. Everything belongs to God but it is our job to steward it.

From my hubby.

Blessings
