How to stake Tron (TRX) on ledger Wallet
By staking your Tron (TRX) and voting for candidates in Ledger Live, you’ll be able to earn staking rewards while benefiting from the security of your Ledger device.
For instance, by staking your Tron (TRX), you’ll be able to earn either bandwidth points to use in making transactions without paying network fees or earn energy points to execute smart contracts.
To fix this
Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:
- Set up Ledger Live with your Ledger device.
- Install the Tron app
- To do this; Go to My Ledger in the Ledger Live app already installed on your computer, connect, and unlock your device. If asked, allow My Ledger to access your device, locate Tron in the app catalog and install.
- Update the firmware on your Ledger device.
- Make sure that you are using the latest version of the Tron app on your Ledger device.
- Add a Tron account on Ledger Live by clicking on “Add account” on the Accounts page
- Connect your Ledger Tron (TRX) account to TronLink
- Add some TRX to your Tron account.
Staking Tron (TRX)
1. Open the Tron app; go to your Tron account page and click on Earn rewards in the menu section.
2. Once you have clicked on earn rewards, you’ll be presented with information about how staking works. Choose to continue.
3. In the next section, you’ll be required to choose between Bandwidth points or Energy points as rewards.
Bandwidth points are useful for making transactions without paying network fees while Energy points are perfect for executing smart contracts.
4. Once you have chosen between Bandwidth and Energy points, enter the amount of TRX to freeze, choose to continue then unlock your Ledger device, and choose “Accept or Decline”
Once accepted, your TRX will be frozen. You have to understand that frozen TRX cannot be sent for 3 days.
Also, the higher amount of TRX you froze, the better chance you have to earn potential rewards.
5. Once everything is correctly done and you have confirmed the process on your Ledger device, you’ll be presented with the below notice “that you’ll start earning either bandwidth points or energy points,” while being able to vote for super representatives to also earn rewards.
You should keep in mind that voting for validators does not guarantee that you will be paid any reward. While some super representatives and candidates reward their voters, others do not.
Note: staking rewards on Tron (TRX) can be claimed whenever you want and there’s no need to keep the Ledger Live app running.
How to unstake Tron (TRX) from Ledger Live
Staking TRX is extremely rewarding, however, when you need to spend your coins, then unfreezing your TRX is essential.
Unfreezing your Tron (TRX) will stop you from receiving rewards, and decrease your bandwidth or energy points while canceling your votes. The process takes 3 days before you can spend your unfrozen TRX.
Before you start
- Make sure that you are using the latest firmware on your Ledger device
- Keep in mind that it takes 3 days for unfrozen TRX to be spendable.
Unfreezing Tron (TRX)
1. Open the Tron app; go to your Tron account page and click on Manage assets in the menu section.
2. Once you click on the manage asset section, you will be presented with options such as freeze, unfreeze, and vote. Choose “Unfreeze”
3. Now choose the TRX you want to unfreeze, whether it’s Bandwidth or Energy. Select and continue.
4. You will be prompted to verify on your Ledger device to continue. unlock your Ledger device, and choose “Accept or Decline”.
Once accepted, your TRX will be unfrozen and you can start spending your TRX after 3 days.
