Miss Whatever!

What I am going to write is a very delicate topic. It relates to Feminism. With all due respect to all the ladies out there, I just want to express what I have been feeling for a quite a while now (I request you to read it till the very end).

I remember there used to be this beauty pageant called Miss Teen Nepal. Many of the winners went on to do great things as well. The one I remember was Priyanka Karki (who I also had a secret crush back in school) is now one of the finest actresses in Nepal. At that time I thought beauty pageants were a very good thing happening as it empowered the ladies and provided them a platform to go on and make a name for themselves. But wait, let me ask you what happens when you put too much of sugar in your cake. It becomes bitter right? Yes, it also loses its essence, its taste and the desire to eat it. Simply saying, it becomes tasteless and valueless. Well, I feel the same for the beauty pageant thing these days. As soon as people found out these kinds of pageants can help you make money everyone joined in. Then the pageants started happening like good Fridays. Miss teen queen, Miss This, Miss That. Miss ohh I look so ugly let me be Miss ugly Nepal. Miss horrible English (some are good but some are really really annoying). I even saw Miss SLC. Ohh come on people if you teach a 15–16 year old about glamor and makeups, dresses and ramp walk she will ultimately be attracted to it without knowing the cons of the show bizz.

The question is, “is this even important?” Now, the reason I am writing this is, there is this girl (“average looking” on my facebook, I also know her personally and I know she is going to be offended after reading this article) who keeps bugging me and a lot of my friends (yes! I asked our common friends) to support her, ‘LIKE” her pictures on FB and even like her “LIKE PAGE” that she created HERSELF. Don’t you think we’d like it if we liked it? I bet many of you have been through this. However, coming back to the topic all I want to say is, instead of all these beauty pageants, how about we train them to become women Entrepreneurs for the future? How about teaching them what it’s to become a doctor, or an engineer or a lawyer? This way we have molded them to become independent, confident and in some way, help the country to produce great leaders for the future. All I am saying is let’s make them beautiful from the inside, Lets train them to sharpen their knowledge.

If you are one of the winners or winner of some kind of segment like, Miss personality, Miss smile, Miss hip hop, Miss Metal, Miss red red cheek, Miss Jham Jham Teel Hair Style. Please mark my words “Nobody. Gives a. Flying F about who you are” (read it the way al pachino would say in scarface). We only care if you participate in something like Miss Nepal (which selects THE ONE who will represent our nation internationally) because it’s the top notch and the official one I guess. If not and if it’s organized by any other XYZ events, then you are just part of the laughing stock for many. And they are making money and branding themselves and their business by selling you.

At the end I would also like to mention all those ladies who have acted in a music video or those who have a good figure or have done a photo-shoot just because your friend who is a photographer or has a DSLR and “pretends” to be one or have paid for your own photo shoot and have started a “like” page of your own, I have worked in a television (and being a musician myself) I know how people consider Nepali music video. 1 out of 50 songs is good with composition, artist, and the video output and trust me when I say good artist the voice has to be really really good. The rest are just auto tuned. Nobody cares about the videos!!!!!!!!!!! So stop acting like a celebrity and get a life. Your attitude does not match who you are. I know models that are prettier, smarter and have made a name for themselves without creating their FB page or trying to act as if they are Miss Nepal. Facebook is not the ULTIMATE thing, it only makes you believe that people love you. The admirers are US, the followers who only follow or admire if we like you from out heart.

Anyways, it’s not about the looks and please don’t think I judge people based on their looks.

Until next time………
