Want to become a legendary Axie trainer? This guide will help you on your quest!

Axies can battle each other in special 3 vs. 3 Arena battles.

Check out what a battle looks like here!

Before battle, players can choose their team of 3 Axies, their Axies’ positioning on the 3 x 3 Arena, as well as the order of the battle abilities.

Body Parts and Abilities

The abilities that Axies can bring into battle are determined by their body parts. Mouths, Horns, Backs, and Tails all come with an associated ability while Eyes and Ears will confer passive boosts in the future.

Abilities are used to attack and defend in the order that they are set. When an ability is used, it moves to the back of the ability queue and the ability behind it moves up and becomes the “active ability”.

Each ability has various stats and can sometimes have a special effect.

Each ability has an attack value, defense value, and an accuracy value. Some abilities also have passive effects.

Axies attack the Axie that is closest to them on the battlefield. If two Axies are at the same distance, the Axie that is attacked will be random.

In general, it’s a good idea to put your “tankiest” Axies on the front lines so that they can protect their more fragile teammates. Tanky Axies generally have higher HP values and abilities with high defense. On the “Edit Team” screen, the front is to the right side of the screen.

Rounds + Speed

In Axie battles, Axies attack each other in “rounds”. During a round, each Axie on both teams will use it’s “active ability”. The speed stat determines the attack order of Axies in a round, with the highest speed Axies attacking first.

Typically, you want to set your move orders to maximize the chances that your Tank is using its best “defensive” abilities to defend! For example, a very slow tank(31–35 Speed) will most likely use its first 3 abilities to defend and its fourth ability to attack. Faster tanks are viable but are more reliant on having 4 high defense(10+) abilities since it’s a bit harder to predict which abilities they will use to attack, and which they will use to defend.

There are 6 classes of Axie: Beast, Aquatic, Plant, Bird, Reptile, and Bug.

Different classes are more effective against other classes. Become familiar with this diagram!

Critical Strikes, Last Stands, Counters, and Misses

During battle, abilities can Miss, Counter, and Critical Hit. In addition, Axies can enter last stand mode. See the diagram below for details on each of these mechanics.

Here’s the formula for calculating whether an Axie will enter “Last Stand”. Final blow damage — Remaining HP < Remaining HP x Morale / 100.

Each Axie has 4 base stats, HP, Skill, Morale, and Speed. The distribution of these stats will help dermine a particular Axie’s role in battle.

Each class has different base stats. You can find them here.

HP — Determines the total Hit points of an Axie. The more HP an Axie has, the more damage it can receive before being incapacitated in battle.

Skill — Skill determines an Axie’s accuracy. Axies with higher “skill” will miss their attacks less frequently.

Morale — Morale determines an Axie’s critical strike chance, counterattack chance, chance of entering “last stand”, and the number of “last stand” turns.

Speed — Speed determines the attack order of Axies. Axies with higher speed will attack at the beginning of turns. Speed will also increase an Axie’s chance to dodge an attack.

Each body part adds stats depending on the class of the part:

Plant: 3 HP + 1 Morale

Aqua: 3 Speed + 1 HP

Reptile: 3 HP + 1 Speed

Beast: 3 Morale+1 Speed

Bug: 3 Morale + 1 HP

Bird: 3 Speed + 1 Morale

We can get an understanding of how this works by looking at Ginger’s body parts:

That’s it for the basics! We’ll be releasing an “advanced battle tactics” guide in the future.
