Book Review: Climate of Hope

Climate of Hope is an insightful book that comes from different perspectives on the most pressing issue in our world today, Climate Change.
I was watching The Daily Show a few months ago, and hosted on that episode were Michael Bloomberg and Carl Pope to talk about how to tackle climate change, how Trump’s backing out of the Paris Agreement will likely have little to no effect on the future, and their newly released book “Climate of Hope”
On the top side of the cover of the book it says “How cities, businesses, and citizens can save the planet” with that, you get an idea of who this book is for. It’s for city officials who are looking for solutions to help their cities become stronger and more resilient in the face of climate change. It’s for businesspeople who are looking into where to invest their money to stay relevant in the market, and in order to save the planet. Most importantly, it’s for everyday regular citizens who want to better their lives NOW, and to make sure there’s a bright future in our planet for their children in the future.
What’s really amazing about this book, and probably what makes it most distinct is that it comes from two different perspectives. You get the perspective of a lifelong environmental activist (Carl Pope), who has led an environmental protection NGO (the Sierra Club) for 18 years. Then you also get the perspective of a businessman and former mayor of New York City (Michael Bloomberg).
Getting both perspectives can really help, and shape your ideas into knowing what your role is in the fight against climate change.
I urge every city official to read this book to understand what needs to be done NOW in order to protect the residents of their cities. Businesspeople need to read this book to understand where they need to put their money in order to secure their investments. Citizens should read this book to understand how they can act now in the fight against climate change.
