This season, BAND went on the look for exceptional young athletes who empower and inspire everyone around them. We asked coaches to tell us about an athlete that has inspired them and the rest of their teams to work harder and push forward in the face of challenges.
We were amazed by the incredible stories that coaches from all over the country sent in about their athletes. The amount of love and passion felt by the coaches who submitted was clear in every entry, and it has been very difficult to narrow down the list of deserving and qualified athletes.
BAND is very pleased to present our Recommended Athlete Scholarship to Scott Lopez.

Based on his skill, sportsmanship, and perseverance, Scott has been awarded the ‘Recommended Athlete’ Scholarship by everyone here at BAND. We hope he continues to uplift his teammates and helps them band together!
Scott Lopez is a two-time All-American male cheerleader in his senior year at York High School. Even though he’s only been cheerleading for three years, his skills and abilities make it seem like he’s been doing it for his entire life.
Scott’s family is unsupportive of his dream to pursue cheerleading, but Scott’s passion continues to help him thrive. Because his parents were discouraging towards him, Scott started working nights to pay for his own cheerleading expenses. Oftentimes, he leaves at the end of cheer performances and works into the late evening.
Scott’s hard work has started to pay off. Last year, while he was cheering at Varsity’s UCA summer camp, a college recruiter approached him with an offer to join their team. Now in his senior year, he has continued to receive offers from college scouts.
Scott’s enthusiasm, positivity, and passion for cheer is an inspiration to his entire team, pushing them to work harder on the toughest days.

Once he graduates from high school at the end of the year, Scott plans to continue to pursue his love for cheer at college.
At BAND, we are inspired by Scott’s fearless dedication and his positive attitude. We hope that this scholarship will inspire Scott and everyone on his team to continue pursuing their dreams and band together!
