This season, BAND went on the look for exceptional young athletes who empower and inspire everyone around them. We asked coaches to tell us about an athlete that has inspired them and the rest of their teams to work harder and push forward in the face of challenges.

We were amazed by the incredible stories that coaches from all over the country sent in about their athletes. The amount of love and passion felt by the coaches who submitted was clear in every entry, and it has been very difficult to narrow down the list of deserving and qualified athletes.

BAND is very pleased to present our Recommended Athlete Scholarship to Siah Figueroa.

Congratulations, Siah!

Based on her skill, sportsmanship, and perseverance, Siah has been awarded the ‘Recommended Athlete’ Scholarship by everyone here at BAND. We hope she continues to uplift her teammates and helps them band together!

Siah is a talented four-year-old dancer in Burbank, California. Siah started at her studio when she was only two years old.

Siah is incredibly bright and speaks three languages at home — English, Spanish, and American Sign.

Her very first day at the studio, Siah entered into the adult class and started mimicking their choreography. Two years later, she’s able to excel with choreography some of the adults even struggle with.

Siah was born with sensory developmental issues. She is extremely sensitive to touch and does not process unexpected sensations such as wetness, or stickiness the same way as other kids.

Despite this obstacle, when she’s dancing, much of Siah’s distress goes away.

Even though it’s sometimes hard financially, Siah’s family is very supportive of her dreams. Siah’s mom teaches her American Sign, and her father is a photographer for elementary schools at Gooberhead Productions. He’s a welcome visitor in the studio and helps uplift everyone with his fun and positive attitude.

Siah’s studio is in a very wealthy city, and Siah knows she’s not like the other kids, who are involved with things like fencing and horseback riding as well. Siah once told her coach, “opportunities like that are for the other girls.” Even though it sometimes makes her an outsider, Siah doesn’t let that stop her.

Beyond her natural ability to dance, Siah’s bright and positive attitude helps inspire everyone else in the room. She loves to encourage her teammates to work hard and excel at everything they do.

At BAND, we are inspired by Siah’s passion and positive attitude. We hope that this scholarship will inspire Siah and everyone at her studio to continue pursuing their dreams and band together!

A great coach inspires their athletes, but great athletes inspire their coaches.

Event Period: August 7th — September 30th
