The style of the markets of Paris in Caballito

One of the few surviving historic markets in our city for over a hundred years ago:

It was inaugurated on 9 NOV 1889, built by the Society for Advancement of Caballito initiative of then president Miguel Juárez Celman.

The architectural style is functional net cut with a metal cover in the style of the markets of Paris, which allowed large open spaces.
Originally consisted of two levels, with the ground floor external stores, a central pavilion with four ships and two side galleries, and 1200 m2 of housing upstairs.

It was opened and reopened several times, the first was for renovations in 1894, another in the 20s Coronda Passage is incorporated as an internal service road where the freezers are installed. Between 1929 and 1930 reform the facade ornamentation to the fashion of the time while combining classical elements with Front on Centenera. A clock and the name of the market in style Art Deco is incorporated into the front.

In 1957 after an agreement between the owner family and stallholders tenants, whereby forming a corporation and purchased the property, to take over the commercial exploitation until today …

The market was declared a cultural site in 2001 by the City Government.
