The Sunken Place — Tuesday, March 7, 2017

Written By Brandon C. Kesselly

This poem was inspired by the movie Get Out.

The Sunken Place
The hole down which you fall
After moments of great shock
Pain
Despair
Like you’re drowning in your own sorrow
Your own suffering
Your own tears

That helpless feeling you get
When you can’t change what’s happening around you
You’re powerless and you fucking know it

You’re swimming
Clawing desperately to resurface
But your fears
Doubts
Insecurities
Weigh you down
Like rocks in your pockets

You can’t hold your breath much longer
Can you empty your pockets in time?
Or are you stuck forever in
The Sunken Place?

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
