Barcelona En Comú supports Ne da(vi)mo Beograd in the Belgrade local elections

On 4 March, elections to the City Assembly will be held in Belgrade. Barcelona En Comú celebrates the decision of urban movement Ne da(vi)mo Beograd (Don’t let Belgrade Drown) to stand in the elections and expresses our full support for this new, citizen candidacy.

“We are told that the issues of our city are not ours to resolve. We must put an end to this — this is our city, and its issues are our issues.” Ne da(vi)mo Beograd

Ne da(vi)mo Beograd was born around a common goal: putting an end to the degradation and despoilment of Belgrade on behalf of megalomaniac urban and architectural projects — above all the Belgrade Waterfront project.

This is the first time that the platform is standing in elections. It wants to open a dialogue at the level of local communities, blocks and quarters, in order to define common priorities for policies for a better life for all, and not only for some.

“Ne da(vi)mo Beograd’s candidacy reminds us very much of Barcelona En Comú three years ago; it’s a bottom-up process that wants to change the rules of the game and make ordinary people the protagonists of city politics.” Barcelona En Comú spokesperson, Enric Bárcena.

Like Barcelona En Comú in 2015, Ne da(vi)mo Beograd’s election campaign is crowdfunded by small donations, not by big banks or corporate interests.

Barcelona En Comú will continue to work with Ne da(vi)mo Beograd and municipalist movements around the world in order to build a network of Fearless Cities that can feminize politics, stand up to lobbies, and protect the common good.
