The times they are a changin’

Towards the Spanish general elections on 20 December

Last Friday, the Barcelona en Comú plenary assembly decided, by a huge majority, to take the step of starting negotiations to stand in a Catalan, citizen candidacy in the general elections. The mandate was clear: to call on all people, social movements and political forces that mobilized in the 24 May municipal elections to make sure that the change underway doesn’t stop on 20 December.

The regime is in crisis and the PP-PSOE and their replacement, Ciudadanos, are rearming to stop the constitutional processes under way in Catalonia and the rest of Spain. Now is the time to demonstrate the strength of the people: we’ll stand together and we won’t give in. We want a Catalan, citizen candidacy that brings together as many political sensibilities and social struggles as possible. We don’t want it to be an alphabet soup of party acronyms, and it must defend democratic radicalism, citizen participation, and municipalism as tools of social transformation.

We’re firing the starting gun by holding a public meeting, open to everyone, on Sunday 25 October at 6pm at l’Estació del Nord. In attendance will be: Ada Colau, Mayor of Barcelona, Marta Sibina, nurse and anti-corruption activist, Xavi Domènech, historian, Olga Rodríguez, journalist, and Xosé M. Beiras.

See you there! The times they are a changin’
