We’ve used this model with dozens and dozens of clients — it’s especially helpful for senior management teams in the first stages of a new strategic planning process to more deeply understand their people. Apple’s “Fellows” program is a great example of something that Experts love, and when companies actively encourage their people to cross-pollinate, the “Developers” like us get happier and the company reaps the benefits of top talent with breadth as well as depth competencies.

I hope your workplace offers you the chance to build skills in new fields. More companies today need to recognize that finding flexible/adaptive ways to motivate talent is imperative.
