The music industry, to a large extent, has only themselves to blame for their woes. They had hundreds of opportunities to monetize digital and refused at every attempt. They even went so far as to sue their own customers. Since the earliest forms of recorded music, the music biz has repeatedly been the party responsible for failure to monetize their industry. I wrote an article in 2010 on this subject and it is still pretty much true today.
