Ever had the feeling that your job might be made up? That the world would keep on turning if you weren’t doing that thing you do 9–5?
Favorite Excerpt From His Piece
•Pointless jobs just for the sake of keeping us all working.
•The answer clearly isn’t economic: it’s moral and political.
•The moral and spiritual damage that comes from this situation is profound. •Performing tasks they secretly believe do not really need to be performed.
•Reduction of working hours to free the world’s population to pursue their own projects, pleasures, visions, and ideas.
•Work is a moral value in itself, and that anyone not willing to submit themselves to some kind of intense work discipline for most of their waking hours deserves nothing, is extraordinarily convenient for them.
•Hell is a collection of individuals who are spending the bulk of their time working on a task they don’t like and are not especially good at.
•Endless piles of useless badly cooked fish piling up all over the workshop and it’s all that anyone really does.
•A pretty accurate description of the moral dynamics of our own economy.
•There can be no objective measure of social value.
•Great story of a school friend, who turned poet, then musician, couldn’t carry ahead, lost in debt, & turned to law school, then a corporate lawyer, utterly meaningless, contributed nothing to the world, and, in his own estimation, should not really exist.
•There is a whole class of salaried professionals that, should you meet them at parties and admit that you do something that might be considered interesting (an anthropologist, for example), will want to avoid even discussing their line of work entirely. Give them a few drinks, and they will launch into tirades about how pointless and stupid their job really is.
•If someone had designed a work regime perfectly suited to maintaining the power of finance capital, it’s hard to see how they could have done a better job.
•Real, productive workers are relentlessly squeezed and exploited.
•Clearly, the system was never consciously designed. It emerged from almost a century of trial and error. But it is the only explanation for why, despite our technological capacities, we are not all working 3–4 hour days.
Yes, that’s the situation of our economy.
Seriously, Exactly my thoughts that i’ve been sparking & hard-wiring in my head. Being an introvert, i’ve embraced my past, & always tried to “Be In Present” & “Learn from it“, & most often things are left too short on words. I thank to nature, & praise it, all the time, that there are “Energies” within us, that we emit 24/7, & it’s beyond any means of communication with energies of other ones. If humans can learn more how to sniff energies of the other one, then the world would be even better place to be, to stay even more humane like we’re supposed to be. These words above are written so beautifully, which matches up just right, on bulls eye.
Our life would be pointless if we don’t do what we are supposed to do, what we love to do, & love what we do. It shall be for ourselves first in order to give benefits to others from what we’ve Learned, Achieved & Embraced.
