This Generation Will Be Fine: Why Social Media Won’t Ruin Us

Your analogies are flawed. The internet is far different than television in the 60's and 79's. There were 3 channels. They went off the air at night. You couldn’t watch tv 24 hours a day. Most people had one TV and they watched shows as families. Even using the internet in the early 1990's is far different than today. You needed a hard wire line and it was slow. Your computer was not in your pocket. There were time limits based on the fact that it wasn’t always with you. And you didn’t have access to all the worlds knowledge and news and all the other wonders of the Internet all the time whereever you were. That is a new phenomenon of the last 8 years.

I’m not saying that your generation won’t be fine- that’s still to be determined- but, technology was not even close to what it is now and the comparisons are weak.
