The history behind that area and the Overmountain trail near the Overmountain shelter shouldn’t be missed. The rebels traveled through that area on their way to an important Revolutionary War battle in Kings Mountain, and it is hard to imagine that they traveled from that far away (and farther) to fight the British man to man.
