Catching up with Kwad
One of our favorite artists currently on the come-up is Kwad. A Jamaican-born rapper/singer with a wide range of vocal abilities. Kwad is just 17 and has been consistently pumping out some really dope tracks. With his sights set on big things in the future, we wanted to catch up with Kwad and see what he’s been up to.

BMBR: Been listening to you for a while but the first two songs were 876 and Sing for You. Both dope but very different. Can you tell us a little bit about your sound and style?
Kwad: Sing for you was on some feelings man, just in my room really feeling that shit. But 876? That was me with the homies. You never really know what I could do. I could make a trap song today and I could make a boom bap song tomorrow, I never put myself in a box.
BMBR: No restrictions, I feel that. I also noticed you grew up in Kingston. What sort of things or artists influenced you musically?
Kwad: Everything bro, literally everything. I’ve never wrote a verse, and not thought about Jamaica. Before I started rapping I used to do reggae, you don’t hear that Jamican in my tone!? Haha
BMBR: Definitely, glad it’s always in your mind. Can you tell us more about the hip hop collectives you have going on?
Kwad: Ahhh you talking about TXMRXC, those are my boys, know what I’m saying. We got people in England, people in Jamaica, people all over! Everybody I do features with are all from TXMRXC. Shamar Vegas, 6-Bar$ both TXMRXC. Gotta peep the boys! My other crew is ELOHiM is still affiliated with TXMRXC but that’s the group that shaped me, taught me about the game and taught me a bunch of shit. Those are my brothers but TXMRXC is like my group. We all relatives.
BMBR: What’s next for you as an artist?
Kwad: Shiittttt. I can’t tell you exactly what’s next bro but I’m coming out with an EP in the next couple months so be on the look out for that and there’s gonna be a lot of singles being dropped. I am releasing music constantly. A lot of music man, lot of music. That ‘young’ in me, know what I’m saying?
BMBR: Haha yeah man, definitely. In addition to being about music, we are also a tech-site. What’s one app on your phone you’re really feeling right now?
Kwad: Ahhh what app? Ahh You know the photo app with the moving photos. Everybody needs to get hip what that shit.
BMBR: Haha oh the gip creators?
Kwad: Yeahh. That shit is tough!
BMBR: Thanks for the time bro.
Kwad: Bless.
Be on the look out for him and his crew. Since we sat down with him he’s released three new tracks.
