I guess “autonomous vehicle” doesn’t really absolve the driver, the car, nor its manufacturer from responsibility for the car’s actions . . .

There’s the Chinese saying that if you save someone’s life, you are responsible for their actions for the rest of their life (since they wouldn’t have had an actions but for your action of saving them). Tort law has taken many major shifts and pivots in US legal history: the car invented many new directions for tort law and as it becomes an autonomous entity, it will be another bumpy ride for us all.
