Key words need definitions

This article never defines its key word: stupidity. Stupidity means having or showing a great lack of intelligence, good sense, judgment, or reasoning ability. Stupid does not mean dumb. Dumb implies a limited knowledge of facts.

One of the major problems of current society is the misuse of words. Society creates this problem by failing to teach people the importance of associating and using words with precise and accurate definitions. Not doing this is one of the major drivers of social polarization.

I discuss this at length in my book Collapse 2020 .

I think this statement cannot be so easily made without further addressing the context it applies to. For example, the entire world legal system takes a very different view. Legal agreements, for example, commonly state that the use of all the terms in the agreement conform to the definitions of words under some jurisdiction. What would be the basis for any media discussion of an issue if an opening disclaimer was made to the effect, “the meaning of any term used in the following discussions can have any basis any listener prefers.” The result would, of course, be chaos. In fact, the reason Americans have so much difficulty with their government is that this indeterminate meaning of words is allowed to apply to the very foundation documents of the Republic.
