The Baan Gyu Gyu Way
We thought we’d take a moment to share our story!

What Mari & I have discovered is we’re avid futurists learning whatever we need to learn to build a platform to help people surf the tsunami of input as we become more connected.
What we’ve sought to create is a vibrant “living story” designed to adapt as people join.
We never anticipated being pioneers inventing new ways to facilitate the development of our partnership. We would like to share what we’ve learned & we invite you to continue learning along with us.
- Mari & Chinarut met at a social event hosted by Landmark Worldwide’s Wisdom Area
- We went on a personal branding adventure with the support of Sam Christensen
- Little did we know we planted seedlings that would emerge 2 years later…
Backstory (April 2012-June 2013):
- In the beginning, Mari had a vision! Chinarut quickly became fascinated with the details and processes supporting the partnership.
- We adopted Google Docs to help us organize details of what we saw & by the time it hit 35 pages, it become unmanageable. Chinarut discovered a strength scouting technologies to help sort & organize raw data in a personal yet organic way. He attempted to transform the data into technologies like Rizzoma and TheBrain and while they were promising, there were significant gaps to bridge as regards to the future we saw & where we stood. Fortunately, these technologies made it easy to put a bookmark on it in June 2013.
- We found sweet spots like dance — something to make the adventure fun and real. We supported the Dance Labs community to gather for their 10th anniversary in 2012 and use music to integrate their work with the visual arts at the Conference for Global Transformation in 2013.
Developing Autonomy (June 2013-June 2014):
- An important lesson our partnership learned was learning to distinguish our contribution to communities like Dance Labs from who we are as partners. When asked “what do we do?” Dance Labs was one of many communities we enjoy supporting. We both feel we each had to experience other communities independently.
- Mari found an exciting opportunity to explore the edge of wearable computing at Telepathy.
- Chinarut became intrigued by the possibilities of Business Model You community. He thanks all of you who took on designing your personal business model — you are an important contribution to the design of this quickstart that helps people get started!
- The unexpected result shifting our focus is the Dance Labs community discovered a new future at Wisdom 2.0, rebranded themselves, and a vision We Dance For Good in Thailand emerged by the first half of 2014.
Reestablishing Flow (June 2014):
- Pinchas, a master relationship and communications coach, supported us in strengthening our communication skills. Without his support, our partnership is likely to have fallen apart quickly.
- Mari & Chinarut chose to explore whether the Business Model Canvas offers an effective way to help summarize and manipulate the input we receive. We thought it might be easier to work in a world where business design patterns are king!
Continued Explorations (June 2014-August 2014):
- We began to explore how we might be able to support Japanese companies to extend to foreign markets such as the United States and Thailand.
- We collaborated on an article on conference development based on our experience at Google I/O co-translated to reach our Japanese audience.
- Chinarut was invited to refine his focus on input technologies and is in the process of becoming an Evernote Business Certified Consultant. We are open to helping business teams organize & create meaning of their data — we can only imagine there are people out there experiencing the same kind of challenges we do perhaps compounded by the increased size of their teams. We’d like to find out!
- As we ran back into the “tsunami of input” issue very quickly we didn’t have sufficient opportunity to explore many of the exciting ideas some of you shared.
- While we realized we had a new tool called the Business Model Canvas at our disposal, we learned we needed to fill in the gap in our ability to transform all the great advice and learn to leverage the canvas the way it was designed.
- We needed to adopt a new level of process. It’s been back to school once we discovered Steve Blank’s Lean Launchpad class online. In Lesson 0, we learned that we had made many of the classic mistakes startups made during the Internet bubble in 2001. It was very humbling and we are grateful this kind of wisdom is freely available.
We’ve decided to focus on our respective ventures until we engage a Director of Development.
- Chinarut will continue to focus on integrating business, technology, and the arts and leverage three anchors: (1) Business Model You, (2) Evernote, and (3) Dance Labs. He is considering relocating back to Thailand and seeks a partner who will focus on this goal with him for a year.
- Mari is working on creating a show on science and technology with her twist. She committed to attending Singularity University and will continue to explore physics, technology, and transformation.
