Day 17
Say what?
“You want me to do what?” I thought as my director handed me a script to read. She wanted me to read a script that someone had sent to her, see if it was worth their time and if it was something I thought their audience would like. She said, “I trust you and you know what they will like and don’t like. I was kind of pleased to know that they would listen to my opinion, me being an intern and all.
So far I have been given two scripts to read. The first script was called Johnny Everyone. Is about a singer and how he is about to go to hell. Basically the premise of the play was that it was a gospel musical that had comedy in it. I only made it through roughly 20 pages before I couldn’t take anymore. However, I didn’t dislike it because it was christian based (Because I am a Christian or as I prefer follower of Christ), I disliked it because it was horrible. What I read just seemed so far fetched and dry, almost like there was no thought put into it. Needless to say I went and told the director how I felt. She said, “If it doesn’t catch you in the first 20 pages then its probably not good.” Then she asked me to write the writer a letter basiclly saying thanks, but no thanks. Agian I was like “You want me to do what?” but I did and she even had me sign it friom me. Truth be told I wasn’t expecting the responsibilty of deciding wether or not a script was good and then telling the writer.
The Second script I got handed was The Ghost in the Meadow. I loved it! I read the whole script and quite enjoyed it. Even though I really liked it, I didn’t think it would work for the cliental DDP has. The Ghost in the Meadow is about two sisters living on their own in the middle of the country. They have only been there a week when weird things start to occur. Well one of the sisters boyfriends comes down to help with the house and while he is there they call in a psychic. Ulimatly they end up “clensing” the house of the ghost. Over all I think it was a well written play and could go over well in some groups. I also think it would make a pretty awesome short film, but thats just my opinion.
