College Team USA Challenges at the 2015 Universiade in South Korea Next Month

TEAM USA. 2015 Universiade. Gwangju, South Korea

U.S.A is sending a badminton team to the 2015 Universiade (July 3–14) in South Korea. The team is competing against university players from around the world in the largest multi-sport event after the Olympics.

The team consists of eight college students from around the nation:

Chetan Potu (co-captain), University of California, San Diego

Erika Sporkert (co-captain), University of Southern California

Timothy Hsu, University of California, Berkeley

Stephanie Lam, University of California, Los Angeles

Adrienne Lin, University of Washington

Derrick Long, San Jose State University

Ashwin Narkar, University of California, Los Angeles

Angela Zhang, Columbia University

This is the second time the U.S. is sending a team to Universiade. The first time was in 2013, when the team had the minimum four players, so that everybody had to play at least two matches in the team competition.

This is team manager Ray Ng’s third year managing the team, and this time it finally has a coach coming along with the players to South Korea. The coach is Kowi Chandra, a former Indonesia National Team and US National Champion who has coached for the US since 2006.
