How to use Banter to create and record a conversation
The screen recording above will show you how easy it is to use Banter.
We’ve also created a step-by-step guide in case you’d rather read the process detailed out.
Getting Started
First, you’ll need to head over to http://www.banter.chat
Next, sign in using your Google account. Once you’re signed in, you’ll be taken to your homepage (this page is private — only you can see this page)

Create a conversation
Once you’re ready to connect with your guest, you’ll need to click on the “Create a conversation” button on the left side of your homepage. This will open a new window; we call it the Conversation Window.
You’re first taken to a Staging Screen so that you can ensure your camera and microphone are working properly. We also give you some tips to keep in mind to make sure you are setup for success (good WiFi, nice background, etc.)

Then, once you’re good to go, you’ll click on the “Generate a PIN code and start the conversation” button at the top of the Conversation screen. This will generate a code you can share with your guest, and bring you into the conversation. you can share this PIN code in whatever way works best for you: Twitter, SMS, Slack, Gmail, etc.

Connecting with your guest
Now that your guest has the PIN code you sent them, they’ll be able to enter it on the homepage via the “I received a PIN code” link (shown in the screenshots below)

Once your guest enters the PIN code, a Conversation Window will appear and they will be taken to the Staging Screen to make sure their audio and video is working properly. When they click the “Join the conversation” button at the top of that screen, they will join you!

Recording a conversation
You and your guest can catch up and align on what you want to discuss before anything is recorded. When the two of you are ready, you can start recording by clicking on the green “Start recording” button.

When you have wrapped up your recording, simply click “Stop recording.” This will allow the two of you to have a quality sign-off, but still be able to casually say good-bye before you each hangup and leave the conversation.

Accessing your recording
Immediately after you click “Hangup and leave”, the Conversation Window will close for you and your guest. When you return to your homepage, you’ll see a card at the top of your feed (similar to the one below) indicating that your files are processing. Once this process is done, you and your guest will receive an email from Banter, alerting you that your files are ready to be downloaded. The “processing card” card will automatically update with links that will allow you to download the video file, as well as the audio only file.

And that’s it!
Hope this was helpful. Please reach out to us on Twitter (@ChatBanter) or via email (info@banter.chat) with any questions you may have. We also love hearing any and all feedback!
