Deakin’s album was excellent, as were Simpson’s, Car Seat Headrest’s, and Nick Cave’s, but the rest were nowhere near being in the conversation for best albums of the year, especially the painfully bland emo revivalism offered up by Modern Baseball or the uninteresting jangle pop brought forth by The Goon Sax. Some of the choices would be improvements upon the list in the article, but for the most part they’d be no better, if not worse.
